OUR STORY
Family-Owned Business
We are a small family-owned farmstead business located in the Gallatin Valley. We practice regenerative permaculture techniques to produce our products.
This means we do not use any industrial man-made chemicals to produce our vegetables or goods. Instead, we rely on mother nature and the power of diversity to grow our crops. We have a core belief here at MRH that in the natural world everything works together to create a harmonic system. This includes the tiny, beneficial microorganism to the obnoxious grasshopper; every creature plays a part in the circle of life.
ABOUT MISSOURI RIVER HOMESTEAD
Missouri River Homestead is a small family farm in the Gallatin Valley founded in 2017. We are located near the headwaters of the Missouri River in Montana. Our goal here at MRH is to provide fresh pesticide-free produce and products to the local community; while farming in a way that is regenerative and beneficial to the local ecosystem.
WHAT IS PERMACULTURE?
Permaculture is a set of design principles centered on whole systems thinking, simulating, or directly utilizing the patterns and resilient features observed in natural ecosystems. It uses these principles in a growing number of fields from regenerative agriculture, rewilding, and community resilience.

The basic idea behind permaculture is to design your life by working with the patterns of nature; rather than against them. By carefully observing and carefully planning with the natural world our lives can become easier, more joy filled, and we can receive the biggest bounty with the least amount of effort. All while working to restore the balance that our planet requires to thrive.

Permaculture revolves around three important ethics.
-
Care for the Earth.
-
Care for the people.
-
Care for the future (return what you take).
